Mark Wetherell is a Professor of Psychobiology at Northumbria University's Department of Psychology. He leads the Health & Wellbeing research cluster and serves on the Research and Knowledge Exchange Committee. He holds a visiting fellowship at Swinburne University's Centre for Human Psychopharmacology. His research focuses on psychobiological pathways linking stress, behavior, and health outcomes in clinical, occupational, and sports populations. He develops interventions to address chronic stress in high-demand groups like healthcare workers and caregivers.
Education: PhD in Psychoneuroimmunology (Plymouth University), MSc in Psychological Research Methods & Statistics, BSc (Hons) in Psychology.
Research Interests: Stress physiology, endocrine systems, chronic stress interventions, and ecologically valid assessment techniques. His work spans clinical populations (e.g., diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis) and occupational groups (e.g., firefighters, police).
