معرفی
Dr. Mark Wade is a Senior Lecturer in Molecular Genetics at the Hull York Medical School, University of Hull, where he serves as Principle Investigator in the Centre for Biomedicine. He leads the Cancer Epigenetics Team focusing on epigenetic mechanisms in cancer development and progression.
His educational background includes a BSc (Hons), MSc, and PhD from Newcastle University, where he completed his doctoral studies in 2012 on molecular genetic alterations in radiation-induced breast cancer. Following his PhD, he worked as a postdoctoral research associate at Newcastle University until 2017, investigating histone demethylase enzymes in breast and prostate cancer, before joining the University of Hull as a Lecturer in Molecular Genetics.
Mark's research primarily focuses on epigenetic regulatory proteins in cancer, particularly in breast cancer and brain tumors (glioblastoma). His work investigates how proteins that modulate chemical modifications of histones control gene expression and contribute to cancer progression. Current research interests include 'epi-reader' proteins that recognize and interpret histone modifications, with the goal of identifying novel therapeutic targets. He also develops novel cell and patient tissue culture models to validate potential therapeutic targets.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on CBX2 protein in breast cancer and glioblastoma, arginine methylation in brain tumors, and microfluidic platforms for cancer research. The research spans molecular mechanisms, therapeutic target identification, and innovative model systems.
- Academy of Medical Sciences Springboard Award (2021) for investigating epigenetic mechanisms in advanced cancer
Mark actively supervises PhD students working on various aspects of cancer epigenetics, including genomic biomarkers in therapy-induced cancer, CBX2 as a therapeutic target in advanced cancer and glioblastoma, and other related topics. He collaborates with Gliomodel, a UK-wide neuro-oncology research collaboration.
As an educator, Mark teaches on BSc (Hons) and MSc Biomedical Science programmes, serving as module coordinator for the Level 4 Principles of Genetics module and teaching on Level 5 Molecular Genetics and Level 6 Human Genetics modules. He also supervises undergraduate and postgraduate research projects.
