Mark Vicol

Mark Vicol is an Assistant Professor of Agrarian Sociology at the Rural Sociology Group, Wageningen University & Research. His work explores the intersection of political economy, agrarian change, and rural livelihoods.

Research Interests focus on:

• Class processes in everyday agrarian life
• Land-agriculture-livelihoods dynamics
• Global value chains in rural development
• Labor regimes and food insecurity
• Contract farming politics
• Alternative agriculture in Europe

Projects include co-founding the Contract Farming Initiative (a researcher-activist network) and coordinating the Critical Agrarian Studies cluster at Wageningen. His geographic expertise spans Southeast Asia (Indonesia, Myanmar), India, and Europe.
