Dr. Mark Treurniet is an Assistant Professor at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Economics and Business, within the Department of Economics, Econometrics and Finance. He holds affiliations with FEB Research Institute (FEBRI) as a Fellow, chairs the Dutch Development Economics Network (DuDE), and is an affiliate of the Collaborative for Econometrics and Integrated Development Studies (CEIDS). His research focuses on Development Economics, particularly exploring the role of hope/aspirations in economic development and public-private interventions in food value chains, with fieldwork in Indonesia, Kenya, Rwanda, and ongoing projects in the Philippines, Vietnam, Bangladesh, and Uganda.
Before joining Groningen, he conducted PhD and postdoc research at Wageningen University's Development Economics group. His work emphasizes impact evaluation methodologies, including randomized field experiments and policy assessments. He has published on topics ranging from employability training in Rwanda to the effects of being surveyed on agricultural technology adoption. His research bridges theoretical insights with practical policy applications in development contexts.
