Mark T. Unno is Professor of Religious Studies at the University of Oregon within the College of Arts and Sciences. His scholarship bridges Japanese Buddhism with Comparative Ethics and Psychotherapy.

Specializing in Medieval Japanese Buddhism, Unno investigates connections between intellectual history and social practices, with particular focus on Shingon, Pure Land, and Zen traditions. His research also spans Shinto-Buddhist interactions, dream analysis in religious contexts, and cross-cultural ethical frameworks.
His publications explore the Mantra of Light, Zen ethics, and Buddhism's modern adaptations. Current teaching includes courses on Buddhism and Psychotherapy and Medieval Japanese Buddhism. Unno serves on the Executive Board of the Society for Buddhist-Christian Studies and the Editorial Board of the Journal of Religious Ethics.
