Mark R. Emerick is an Assistant Professor of Education at Vassar College since 2023. He holds a B.A. in English Literature and M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, and a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics from Temple University. His research focuses on language policy, equity for multilingual learners, and critical discourse analysis in educational contexts. He teaches courses such as Language Policy and Planning in Education and Anti-Racist and Decolonial Perspectives in Language Pedagogy.
His work examines systemic inequities in career and technical education (CTE), particularly how language ideologies and policies marginalize multilingual students. Notable publications include studies on raciolinguistics in CTE standards and translanguaging practices in teacher training programs. He has received prestigious awards like the National Academy of Education/Spencer Postdoctoral Fellowship.
Emerick's grants and fellowships support investigations into educator beliefs and policy implementation. His research bridges theory and practice, advocating for anti-racist reforms in educational systems. He previously taught ESL and English Language Arts at the secondary level before pursuing academic research.
