معرفی
Mark Paul is a Professor and Associate Department Head for Faculty Affairs in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech. His research focuses on fluid dynamics, nonlinear dynamics, and nanotechnology, with an emphasis on nonequilibrium pattern formation, spatiotemporal chaos, and computational systems biology. He leads the Paul Research Group, which explores topics such as chaotic convection, nanomechanical systems, and biological applications of fluid dynamics.
Education: PhD (2000), MS (1994), and BS (1993) in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from UCLA. His work bridges theoretical analysis, numerical simulations, and experimental validations, particularly in understanding complex fluid systems and nanoscale phenomena.
Research Interests: Computational Science, Nonequilibrium Pattern Formation, Fluid Dynamics, Nanoscale Technologies, and Statistical Physics. Notable contributions include studies on Rayleigh-Benard convection, covariant Lyapunov vectors, and stochastic dynamics of nanomechanical systems.
Teaching: Courses include ME 2124 (Thermal/Fluid Engineering), ME 3124 (Thermodynamics), ME 5404 (Fluid Dynamics), and ME 6744 (Chaos and Nonlinear Dynamics). Advised numerous PhD, MS, and undergraduate students in experimental and theoretical projects.
Labs/Teams: The Paul Research Group collaborates on projects involving micro/nano-scale devices, biological systems, and computational topology to analyze complex fluid dynamics patterns.
