Mark Ormerod

Professor Mark Ormerod is a Professor of Clean Technology and Inorganic Materials Chemistry at Keele University, UK. He leads the Lennard-Jones School of Chemical and Physical Sciences, having previously held prestigious fellowships at Cambridge University and an EPSRC Advanced Research Fellowship. His research focuses on environmental sustainability, catalytic materials, and sustainable technology, with emphasis on solid oxide fuel cells, biogas conversion, and environmental catalysis. He has pioneered methods combining spectroscopic analysis with catalytic performance studies to understand surface reactions and catalyst deactivation. His work is funded by national councils, EU grants, and industry partners.

Education: BSc in Natural Sciences (Chemistry) from Cambridge University (1986), PhD in Surface Chemistry (1989).

Research Interests: Environmental catalysis, sustainable technology, energy decarbonization, and environmental citizenship. His studies explore novel catalysts for methane reforming, pollution abatement, and waste biomass utilization. He uses advanced techniques like inelastic neutron scattering to investigate reaction mechanisms at material surfaces.
