Mark Nolan

Professor Mark Nolan is Director of the Centre for Law and Justice at Charles Sturt University (CSU) and an Honorary Adjunct Professor at the Australian National University (ANU). With interdisciplinary expertise in law, psychology, and Asian studies, he leads research on terrorism law, sentencing, and human rights. His qualifications include a PhD in Psychology (ANU), LLB, Master of Asia Pacific Studies, and BSc (Hons).

Nolan's research examines legal psychology, criminal procedure, counter-terrorism legislation, and social cohesion. He currently supervises PhD candidates studying constitutional rights in Thailand, military law, Indigenous sentencing, and Japan's correctional systems. As Editor-in-Chief of Psychiatry, Psychology and Law, he bridges legal and psychological scholarship.

His recent publications focus on online content regulation, memory reliability in abuse cases, compassionate sentencing frameworks, and extremism typologies. Grant funding includes $150,000 for social cohesion research (2019-2021) and $25,000 for sentencing narrative studies. He leads the Threats to Australian Domestic Security team within CSU's CTAS research group.
