Dr. Mark Nederhof is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Computer Science, University of St Andrews. His research focuses on computational linguistics, formal language theory, and ancient writing systems, particularly Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs and hieratic texts. He has contributed to Unicode standards for hieroglyphic encoding and developed tools like the NewGardiner font and HieroJax for digital text representation.
Education: PhD in Theoretical Computer Science from Radboud University (1994), MSc in Computer Science from Radboud University (1990).

- Formal grammars and parsing algorithms
