Mark Montgomery is a Donald L. Wilson Professor of Enterprise and Leadership and Professor of Economics at Grinnell College. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin–Madison (1982) and teaches courses in Mathematical Economics, the Economics of Education, and Environmental Economics. His research spans labor economics, human capital theory, and adoption policy, with publications in journals like The Review of Economics and Statistics and The Journal of Environmental Economics and Management. He is also a coauthor of the upcoming book Saving International Adoption (Vanderbilt University Press, 2018).

Research Interests: Montgomery’s work focuses on interdisciplinary applications of economics, particularly in environmental economics, education economics, and international adoption policy. His recent articles analyze global adoption trends, transracial adoption dynamics, and the economic implications of mature workers returning to education. He also explores creative writing through mystery novels, blending economic theory with narrative storytelling.
Public Engagement: His essays appear in major media outlets such as The Chronicle of Higher Education and The Des Moines Register. He has contributed commentary to Public Radio International’s To the Best of Our Knowledge and authored guides on video editing and digital production.
