معرفی
Mark Jellinek is a Professor in the Department of Earth, Ocean & Atmospheric Sciences at the University of British Columbia (UBC), within the Faculty of Science. His research focuses on understanding Earth and planetary processes, including volcanic eruptions, climate interactions, Martian geology, and deep-sea mining impacts. He has supervised numerous graduate students, with recent theses addressing topics such as hydrovolcanic dynamics, Martian valley networks, and volcanic plume behavior.
His work integrates field studies, experimental modeling, and computational simulations to explore phenomena like magma chamber evolution, eruption dynamics, and glacial modulation of volcanism. Key interests include the environmental consequences of volcanic clouds and the application of remote sensing to study planetary landscapes.
Recent research highlights include studies on the climatic effects of large eruptions (e.g., Hunga Tonga), the role of particle microphysics in deep-sea mining plumes, and the use of valley morphometry to infer glacial-interglacial cycles. He emphasizes creative, independent research and mentors students in geology, volcanology, and planetary science.
