Mark Hayton

Mark Hayton serves as a Work Based Tutor Assessor at Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU), joining the institution in November 2022 to support policing education programs. His role centers on mentoring student police officers across CCCU's vocational pathways, leveraging three decades of frontline policing expertise.

Hayton's academic foundation includes a Diploma in Policing Studies, a Post Graduate Diploma in Management Studies (awarded with distinction), and a Master's Degree in Management Studies (awarded with distinction)—all earned at CCCU. This combination of practitioner experience and formal education uniquely positions him to address student challenges in work-study-life balance.

His professional focus spans Policing, Road Safety, Tactical Operations, and Management Studies, informed by 30 years with Kent Police where he served as Uniform Inspector in Tactical Operations and the Force Control Room. He specializes in tactical command of critical incidents and firearms responses, translating this operational knowledge into student support.

Hayton currently guides Police Student Officers through three key programs:

• Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship
• Degree Holder Entry Programme
• Detective Degree Holder Entry Programme

Prior to CCCU, he spent five years in Kent County Council's Road Safety Department (part-time) following his police career, maintaining continuous engagement with public safety systems.
