Mark Hainsworth is a Lecturer in the Education and Mathematics departments at Emory & Henry College. He serves as Director of the Master of Education Program, overseeing recruitment, admissions, and advising for graduate students. Previously, he directed the Quantitative Literacy initiative at the college, focusing on faculty training, course development, and student support in mathematics.
Education: Currently pursuing a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction (I-STEM ED) at Virginia Tech. Holds an MS in Environmental and Civil Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park, and BS degrees in Chemical Engineering (Clarkson University) and Chemistry (SUNY Fredonia).
Research interests center on changes in science and mathematics concept knowledge among students engaged in Integrative STEM Education and Design-Based Learning. Collaborates with his spouse, Dr. Laura Hainsworth, Director of the Bartlett Crowe Field Station, to enhance student access to field research.
Teaching includes courses like EDUC 340 (Contemporary Teaching of Science/Math), MATH 100 (Fundamental Algebra), and EGSC-120 (Engineering Science Laboratory). Professional experience spans public school teaching, engineering roles at O’Brien & Gere and Hagmann-Aguiar, and academic leadership.
