Mark Gregory Pegg is Professor of History at Washington University in St. Louis, specializing in medieval Western history (200-1500 CE). His work examines religion, heresy, persecution, and conceptions of human identity through historical anthropology and narrative scholarship.
Dr. Pegg's influential books include 'The Corruption of Angels' on medieval inquisition records, 'A Most Holy War' about the Albigensian Crusade, and the comprehensive history 'Beatrice's Last Smile'. His forthcoming work challenges historical constructions of Catharism.
Honored with fellowships from Mellon Foundation, Collegium de Lyon, and Institute for Advanced Study (Princeton), he researches religious violence across Christian, Islamic, and Jewish traditions. Dr. Pegg received his PhD from Princeton University and teaches medieval history with emphasis on lived experiences.
