Mark Floyd Lew is Professor of Clinical Neurology and Vice Chair of Neurology at USC's Keck School of Medicine. He holds the Joseph P. Van Der Meulen Chair in Parkinson's Disease Research and serves as Division Chief of Movement Disorders. His clinical research focuses on Parkinson's disease therapeutics, dystonia management, and novel treatments for movement disorders.
Dr. Lew has an international reputation for developing innovative treatments, including advanced apomorphine delivery systems and botulinum toxin applications. He collaborates with advocacy organizations like the Hollyrod Foundation to support Parkinson's research and awareness.
Research Focus: Key research areas include:
- Motor fluctuation management in Parkinson's disease
- Botulinum toxin formulations for dystonia and sialorrhea
- Non-invasive neuromodulation for tremor control
- Biomarker discovery in tear fluid
- Gut-brain axis in neurodegeneration
Recent clinical trials explore continuous drug delivery systems, novel botulinum toxin formulations, and inhaled levodopa. His biomarker research demonstrates the diagnostic potential of tear fluid analysis for Parkinson's detection.
Clinical Translation: As a clinical trialist, Dr. Lew has contributed to FDA approvals for Parkinson's treatments. His work informs clinical guidelines for titration protocols and therapeutic timing. Current projects include mitochondrial dysfunction in neurodegeneration and home-based neuromodulation devices.
He maintains an active clinical practice while conducting trials through USC's Parkinson's research programs.
