Mark Fisher is an Honorary Associate Professor and Research Fellow at the University of East Anglia's School of Computing Sciences. His research focuses on biomedical applications of computer vision and advancing fisheries surveillance technologies through computer vision systems.
Education: Fisher holds a PhD in Applied Machine Learning from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST). He also completed an MEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Aston University, following an electronics apprenticeship with the Royal Radar Establishment.
Research Interests: His work centers on medical image understanding, particularly retinal vessel segmentation, and the application of deep learning in fisheries surveillance. He has pioneered computer vision techniques for marine species identification and automated monitoring of fish discards, addressing environmental and regulatory challenges in the fishing industry.
Projects & Grants: Fisher has led or co-investigated several impactful projects, including the EU Horizon 2020-funded "Smart fisheries technologies" (2018–2022) and Innovate UK projects focusing on radiotherapy treatment shells. His work often bridges technological innovation with real-world applications in healthcare and marine science.

Lab Affiliation: He is a member of the Colour and Imaging Lab within the School of Computing Sciences, contributing to interdisciplinary research initiatives.
