Dr Mark Featherstone is a Senior Lecturer and Associate Head of Student Success at Sheffield Hallam University, affiliated with the School of Computing and Digital Technologies and the College of Business, Technology and Engineering. With 16 years of experience as a video game developer, he transitioned to academia to develop games-related programs. He leads the Steel Minions commercial game studio, bridges academic and industry practices, and focuses on student experience and gamification in education.

Research Interests: Mark’s work centers on gamification, game-based learning, and pedagogy, particularly their application in higher education and software engineering. His studies explore constructive competition, asynchronous multiplayer game elements, and interactive learning to enhance engagement. He also integrates graphics, multimedia, and educational technology into his research.
