Mark E. Mapstone, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) School of Medicine. He serves as Chief of the Neuropsychology Division and Co-Director of the Center for Aging Research in Down Syndrome. He is also a faculty member at the Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders (UCI MIND), where he contributes to research on neurodegenerative conditions and cognitive aging.
His research focuses on neuropsychological aspects of memory, cognitive decline in aging, Alzheimer's disease biomarkers, and neurocognitive trajectories in individuals with Down syndrome. His work integrates clinical assessment with translational research to understand early detection and progression of memory disorders.
Dr. Mapstone's scientific contributions are aligned with UCI MIND's mission to advance understanding of brain aging and dementia. His leadership in the Neuropsychology Division supports clinical training, patient care, and interdisciplinary research initiatives.
He mentors trainees and collaborates across departments on aging and neurological disorders. His work is supported by institutional affiliations with major research centers focused on neurodegeneration and developmental disabilities.
