Mark Doyle

Mark Doyle is a Lecturer in Sociology at the Department of Arts, Technological University of the Shannon: Midlands Midwest, and co-convenor of the Analysing Social Change (ASC) research group. He specializes in sociology, politics, research methods, and policy education across social science, arts, and health programs. His work focuses on digital interactions (e.g., Grindr) among gay and bisexual men (gbMSM), public health outreach, and sexual health advising.

Education: PhD in Sociology (University College Dublin, 2022), Postgraduate Diploma in Sexual Health Advising (Staffordshire University, 2023), MSc Sociology (UCD, 2013), BA Arts (Waterford Campus, 2012).

Research interests include digital sociology, LGBTQ+ health equity, and methodological approaches to studying online communities. He has pioneered strategies to engage gbMSM via social media for HIV prevention through collaborations with HIV Ireland’s Mpower Programme, achieving ~10,000 interactions since 2019.

Key contributions include co-editing Sex and Sexualities in Ireland (2023) and a chapter on feminist topology in digital activism (Handbook of Social Media, 2023). Awards include the Patrick Clancy Medal (2013).

Recent activities include presenting at the Gay Health Forum (2023) and Fast Track Cities (2022). Upcoming engagements include the SSSTDI Annual Conference (2025) and another Gay Health Forum (2025).
