Mark Dowell

Mark Dowell is a Lecturer in Spanish and Portuguese at Washington University in St. Louis, Department of Romance Languages and Literatures. He has been teaching since 2015, offering courses in Spanish grammar (beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels) and Beginning Portuguese. Starting Fall 2019, he will teach Intermediate Portuguese. His expertise includes Peninsular and Latin American Literature, with a focus on the intersection of food and cultural practices.

Education: MA in Romance Languages (Spanish) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Research and Teaching: In 2018, he designed and taught an online University College course, "Hispanic Culture through Food," exploring how food connects cultural practices across Latin America, the U.S., and Brazil. His classes emphasize language skills and cultural context, blending traditional and innovative approaches to education.
