Dr. Mark Dekkers is a Researcher at the Department of Earth Sciences, Utrecht University, specializing in paleomagnetism and rock magnetism. His work bridges geophysics and geochemistry, focusing on paleomagnetic signal preservation and disruption through geological processes. He leads projects on astrochronological timescales, geomagnetic field behavior, and hominid site dating.
- Research Themes: Pathways to Sustainability (PtS), paleointensity methodology, anthropogenic influence tracking via magnetic properties.
- Teaching Roles: General geology, Earth and sustainability (University College Utrecht); geochemical cycles (Bachelor's); paleomagnetism/rock magnetism (Master's Earth, Structure and Dynamics).
He is a project leader for initiatives funded by ALW involving postdoc Anne-Christine da Silva and PhD candidate Marilyn Monster. Editorial roles include associate editorships for Journal of Geophysical Research - Solid Earth, Terra Nova, and Studia Geophysica et Geodaetica.
