Mark DeLancey serves as Professor and Chair of the Department of History of Art and Architecture in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at DePaul University, with concurrent faculty affiliation in the Islamic World Studies program.
His scholarly work centers on African and Islamic visual cultures, specializing in Fulbe artistic traditions, Cameroonian architectural practices, Islamic art across sub-Saharan Africa, and manuscript arts in West African regions including Mauritania and Mali. These research domains reflect deep engagement with cultural intersections between African indigenous traditions and Islamic artistic expressions.
As departmental chair, he oversees academic operations and curriculum development for art history and architectural studies programs while maintaining active research in under-documented African artistic heritage.
