Mark Daniel Cohen is a Professor of Philosophy at The European Graduate School / EGS, where he also serves as Chief Loan Officer and Assistant Dean of the Division of Philosophy, Art and Critical Thought. He holds a BA in English (University of Michigan, 1973), MA (NYU, 2003) with a thesis linking Nietzsche’s philosophy to 19th-century physics, and is a PhD candidate at EGS. Cohen co-founded Contra Mundum Press and collaborates with Dr. Friedrich Ulfers on Nietzschean studies, including their upcoming book on Nietzsche’s ontology from a scientific perspective.
His research integrates philosophy, art, and science, focusing on Nietzsche’s work and its intersections with physics. Cohen has authored over 400 articles on contemporary art and aesthetics for academic and commercial publications, and his books include *Coarctate: Antigone’s Return and Selected Poems* (2010) and *Ilan Averbuch: Public Projects* (2010). He teaches academic writing at EGS and previously directed Drew University’s art program (2000–2004).
Cohen’s publications span art criticism, philosophical essays, and collaborative works, reflecting his interdisciplinary approach to aesthetics, existential thought, and cultural analysis. His recent focus includes Nietzsche’s influence on 20th-century physics, process philosophy, and the relationship between science and artistic expression.
