Mark Cole is a Senior Lecturer in Nursing at the University of Manchester, School of Nursing & Midwifery. His roles include Admissions Tutor for the BNurs (Hons) program, Unit Lead for Postgraduate Infection Prevention and Control, and Undergraduate Delivering Harm Free Care. He is a registered nurse (Adult and Mental Health) with over 30 years’ experience in clinical practice and academia.
Education: PhD in Nursing (Manchester), MSc in Education, and BSc (Hons) in Health Care Studies. He holds qualifications in Infection Control, Nursing Education, and HIV care. Professional memberships include the Royal College of Nursing and Nursing and Midwifery Council.
Research focuses on infection prevention, hand hygiene compliance, and policy language impact. His PhD analyzed the social construction of hand hygiene as a measure to prevent HCAIs. Key interests include healthcare policy behavior-shaping mechanisms and mental health nursing’s infection control challenges.
Teaching expertise spans undergraduate and postgraduate curricula, including Critical Care, Evidence-Based Practice, and Health Informatics. He leads courses on Infection Prevention and Tissue Viability. Over 50 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters reflect his work on sepsis, organ donation risks, and nursing education methodologies.
Awards include Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He serves on the Faculty Fitness to Practice Committee and actively contributes to healthcare policy development. His work aligns with UN SDG 3 (Good Health) and SDG 17 (Partnerships).
