Mark Chaves is the Anne Firor Scott Distinguished Professor of Sociology at Duke University, with a joint appointment in the Divinity School and Religious Studies Department. His research focuses on the sociology of religion, particularly the social organization of religion in the United States. He leads major studies like the National Congregations Study (NCS) and the National Survey of Religious Leaders (NSRL), which provide insights into congregational life and religious leadership. Chaves holds degrees from Dartmouth College, Harvard Divinity School, and Harvard University (PhD).
