Mark Brett is an Honorary Research Fellow in Cyber Security at London Metropolitan University, holding an MRes from the same institution (2000) and completing a Doctoral Training Programme at De Montfort University. He is pursuing a PhD by publication and serves as Programme Director for NLAWARP and the UK Cyber Technical Advisory Group. His roles include Policy and Programme Manager at Socitm, where he contributed to the Local CIO Council's 'Planting the Flag' strategy emphasizing information assurance integration.
Research focuses on Cyber Incident Collaboration, Information Governance in Cyber Security, and Data Handling Guidelines for local authorities. He authored the widely adopted Local Public Services Data Handling Guidelines and lectures on Cyber Security, Threat Intelligence, and Information Assurance.
Awarded certifications include NCSC Certified Cyber Professional, Chartered Fellow of the BCS, and Chartered Manager. His work bridges technical and policy domains, advocating for unified approaches to information assurance through governance, technical controls, and sharing protocols.
