Marja Laine

Prof. Marja Laine is a Full Professor in Periodontology at the Academic Centre for Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA). She specializes in oral biology, focusing on the multifactorial etiology of halitosis, periodontitis, and peri-implantitis, particularly their relationship with saliva. Her research explores microbiological, genetic, and immunological factors influencing oral health. She actively contributes to ACTA's saliva referral clinic and holds teaching responsibilities in halitosis, saliva biology, and periodontal disease management.

In education, she leads courses such as 'Oral Biology and Periodontology' and 'Periodontitis II'. She has supervised two PhD theses and is involved in collaborative research projects like the Patient Orchestrated Diagnostics grant (2024). Prof. Laine serves on editorial boards for journals including Journal of Dental Research and Suomen Hammaslääkärilehti, and has presented at international conferences on topics like microbiome analysis and bone defect research.
