Mariusz Drzewiński

Mariusz Drzewiński serves as an Associate Professor at the Department of Painting and Drawing within the Faculty of Arts at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (UMCS) in Lublin, Poland. Currently holding the position of university professor (profesor uczelni), he has been actively contributing to academic and artistic life since completing his habilitation in 2004. From 2009 to 2016, he served as Deputy Dean for Student Affairs, demonstrating significant administrative involvement alongside his artistic practice.

Dr. Drzewiński earned his artistic education between 1979-1983 at the Institute of Artistic Education at UMCS in Lublin, studying under Professor Mieczysław Herman. In 2004, he obtained his habilitation degree (dr hab.) in fine arts specializing in painting from the Faculty of Painting and Graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk.

His artistic practice focuses intensely on painting and drawing, with a notable evolution toward geometric abstraction evident in exhibitions like 'od gestu do geometrii' (2013), 'Geometria przestrzeni' (2013), and 'Struktury geometryczne' (2020). Over his career, Drzewiński has organized 37 solo exhibitions and participated in over 100 group exhibitions internationally, with works held in private collections and the Lublin Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts Collection. His artistic trajectory shows consistent exploration of spatial geometry, rhythm in nature, and the relationship between gesture and structure.

Among his notable recognitions are the Second ex quo Award in the Painting and Sculpture Competition – Autograf 2001, the Journalists' Award, and the 2008 Director's Award from Lublin Castle Museum. He serves as curator of the National Triennial of Watercolors and participates on jury committees and program councils.

As an active member of the Association of Polish Artists in Lublin (ZPAP), Drzewiński has participated in significant international events including exhibitions in Ukraine, France, Belgium, Australia, China, and the United States. His 2019 'Lublin Meets New York' exhibition at A.R Gallery demonstrates his ongoing international engagement. The 2018 'XXXV - lecie pracy twórczej' (35th Anniversary of Creative Work) at City Project Gallery marked a significant career milestone.
