Marissa Tsugawa is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Engineering Education at Utah State University. They hold a PhD in Engineering Education (2019), MS in Mechanical Engineering (2014), and BS in Mechanical Engineering (2012), all from the University of Nevada, Reno. Additional certifications include ACUE’s Effective College Instruction (2022) and CITI Program credentials in Social & Behavioral Research (2020, 2016).

Research focuses on neurodiversity in engineering, exploring how neurodivergent students develop engineering identities and navigate mentorship dynamics. Additional interests include women of color experiences in engineering and queer inclusion in STEM. Teaching emphasizes Universal Design for Learning in Statics and qualitative research methods.
Recent publications address engineer identity in doctoral studies and LGBTQ+ advocacy in STEM. Awards include the 2023 Outstanding Graduate Mentor of the Year from the Department of Engineering Education.
