Marisa Carrasco is the Julius Silver Professor of Psychology and Neural Science and a Collegiate Professor at New York University. She holds dual appointments in Psychology and Neural Science, reflecting her interdisciplinary research in visual perception and attention. Born in Mexico City, she earned a Licentiate in Psychology from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), followed by an M.S. and Ph.D. in Psychology (Cognition and Perception) from Princeton University.
- Affiliations: NYU Department of Psychology, NYU Center for Neural Science
- Leadership: Former Chair of NYU’s Psychology Department
Her research integrates human psychophysics, neuroimaging (fMRI), neurostimulation (TMS), and computational modeling to explore how attention shapes perception. Key themes include the modulation of visual dimensions by endogenous and exogenous attention, with findings published across disciplines.
- Honors: President of the Vision Sciences Society, President of the Association for the Scientific Study of Consciousness, Fellow of the American Psychological Society, Fellow of the Society of Experimental Psychologists
Her work has been recognized through awards such as the Guggenheim Fellowship, Cattell Fellowship, and Davida Teller Award. She remains active in advancing neuroscience through academic leadership and public lectures, including the 2022 Andrew Carnegie Prize Lecture on 'How Attention Shapes Perception.'
