Mario Saporta is a Clinical Associate Professor of Neurology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He serves as Director of the Muscular Dystrophy Association Care Center and the Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) Center of Excellence, while leading translational research through the CMT Stem Cell Lab. His clinical expertise spans neuromuscular medicine and neurogenetics.
- Education: MD (2001), MS in Neurology (2005), PhD in Neuroscience (2011), and MBA in Health Care Management (2015)
Dr. Saporta’s research focuses on genetic neuromuscular disorders, particularly Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease. He investigates axonal degeneration mechanisms, uses cellular reprogramming for disease modeling, and explores drug discovery through stem cell platforms. His publications highlight genotype-phenotype correlations, repeat expansion dynamics, and stem cell-based CMT models.
Recent trends in his research include precision medicine approaches for inherited neuropathies, development of human disease models via induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC), and bioinformatics tools for Mendelian genomics. His work bridges academic discovery with biotech applications.
