Mario Longtin

Mario Longtin is a Professor in the Department of French Studies at The University of Western Ontario. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh (2001) and specializes in Medieval French Literature, Philology, and the History of Theatre. His research focuses on manuscript studies, dramatic text transmission, and 19th-century Canadian cultural archives. He directs the theatre troupe L’On Donne, producing classical and modern French plays since 2004.

Research Interests: Prof. Longtin’s work bridges textual philology and cultural history, emphasizing the materiality of manuscripts and early printed texts. His projects often involve collaborative international teams, such as work on the Rouen manuscript collections and French Renaissance farces.

Recent Activities: His upcoming publications (2023–2024) explore Jeanne de Marnef’s editorial role in Renaissance Paris, Rouen’s theatre history during religious conflicts, and collaborative printing networks in early modern France. He regularly contributes to academic journals like ROMARD and Seizième Siècle.

Academic Contributions: As guest editor for ROMARD and organizer of theatre performances, Prof. Longtin actively bridges scholarly research with public engagement. His work on Canadian cultural archives highlights overlooked French-language materials from the 19th century.
