Mario DiGangi is a Professor of English at The Graduate Center, City University of New York, where he has been a member of the Ph.D. Program in English since 2001 and the Renaissance Studies Certificate Program since 2009. He serves as Deputy Executive Officer for Admissions in the English program and specializes in early modern drama, particularly the works of Shakespeare and his contemporaries, with a focus on gender, sexuality, and race.

DiGangi’s research bridges feminist, queer, and materialist criticism, examining how sexual types and identities were constructed and contested in Renaissance drama. His work has been recognized through leadership roles, including presidency of the Shakespeare Association of America (2016), and editorial board memberships for Stanford Global Shakespeare Encyclopedia, Renaissance Drama, and Strode Studies in Early Modern Literature and Culture.
His notable publications include books on homoeroticism, affect theory, and sexual embodiment in early modern drama. Recent courses he has taught include Early Modern Sexuality in a Global Context, Queering the Renaissance, and Alternative Families in Early Modern England.
DiGangi’s current projects explore intersectional approaches to race and sexuality in early modern literature, reflecting his long-standing commitment to interdisciplinary and politically engaged scholarship.
