Mario Del Angel Guevara

Dr. Mario Del Angel Guevara is an academic affiliated with the University of New Mexico (UNM) as a Lecturer and International Advisor. He holds a PhD in Spanish from UNM and a bachelor’s degree in Bilingual Education from Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León. He also holds certificates in Mexican Traditional Medicine from CEDEHC and Spanish-English Translation/Interpretation from the University of Arizona.

• Teaches courses in Spanish as a second language, heritage language, medical Spanish, and bilingual curricula on Curanderismo.
• Serves as co-director of UNM’s Curanderismo program, focusing on traditional medicine of Mexico and the Southwest.

His research emphasizes curanderismo practitioners in Mexico, particularly the Fidencista healing movement rooted in Nuevo León. He has translated books on traditional medicine and contributed to linguistic studies of Nuevomexicano dialects through projects like the ENMCCO corpus.

Publications span merging traditional and modern healthcare models, cultural preservation of Hispanic healing practices, and sociolinguistic analysis of regional Spanish dialects.
