Previously, she held positions as Assistant Professor at the same institution (2008-2015) and at Università di Palermo (2004-2008). Her academic trajectory demonstrates consistent advancement within Italian higher education institutions focused on design and architecture.
She holds a PhD in Industrial Design, Visual and Applied Arts from Università di Palermo (2000), complemented by a Master's in Urban Design from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (1991) and an MsD in Architecture from Università di Palermo (1988). This multidisciplinary education spans architecture, urban planning, and industrial design.
Her research explores critical intersections between design, materials science, and sustainability. Key areas include:
- Sustainable design methodologies and circular economy implementation
- Material innovation and historical analysis of design materials
- Gender perspectives in maker cultures and design activism
- Societal impacts of material choices and design policies
- Behavioral design for sustainability through kinetic and smart materials
Recent publications (2021-2025) show strong emphasis on sustainable materials research, circular economy frameworks, and sociocultural aspects of design. Her work consistently addresses how design innovation can resolve environmental challenges while examining historical and gender dimensions of material practices. Collaborative research patterns are evident through frequent co-authorship.
