Marina Emborg is a Professor in the Department of Medical Physics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, School of Medicine and Public Health. She is also affiliated with the Wisconsin National Primate Research Center and the Neuroscience Training Program. Her research focuses on developing treatments for neurodegenerative disorders, particularly Parkinson’s disease, using interdisciplinary approaches involving stem cell therapies, advanced imaging techniques, and nonhuman primate models.
Education: M.D. and Ph.D. from University of Buenos Aires, postdoctoral training at Somatix Therapy Corp. and The Parkinson's Institute, and a fellowship at the University of Michigan.
Research interests include: neuroprotective strategies, stem cell-based therapies, and imaging innovations for preclinical studies. Her work emphasizes translating therapies from animal models to clinical applications.
Key publications highlight advancements in cell-based therapies, gene therapy delivery, and nonhuman primate models. Awards include the Young Scholar Travel Grant (1990) and CONICET Fellowship (1993).
Her team collaborates across disciplines to address challenges in Parkinson’s treatment, including graft survival, immune responses, and imaging validation. She leads the ERP Program at UW-Madison and contributes to initiatives advancing medical physics education and mentorship.
