Professor Marina Cole is a faculty member in the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering at the University of Warwick's School of Engineering. She specializes in electronic engineering with a focus on resonant sensors, piezoelectric materials, and CMOS-based sensor technologies. Her research spans smart sensors, actuators, and microsystems, including applications in environmental monitoring and biomedical diagnostics. She currently oversees 3 PhD and 1 MPhil student and holds EPSRC funding for developing novel signal detection systems.
Her career began in 1996 as a post-doctoral researcher in the Smart Sensors and Devices Research Group. She transitioned to a lectureship in 1998, advancing parallel work on CMOS gas sensors and SAW sensors for liquid applications. She has published over 30 papers and serves on the IEEE Sensors conference committee, reviewing for Sensors & Actuators and IEEE Sensors Journal.
Research interests include integrated silicon-based sensors, analog/digital ASIC devices, and ratiometric infochemical communication systems. Her recent work emphasizes low-cost IoT-based environmental sensors and wearable biomedical devices. She collaborates on multi-sensor systems for harsh environments and smart city applications.
Teaching responsibilities are currently under development. Her office is located in A330, with advice hours on Moodle or by appointment. She is based at the School of Engineering, University of Warwick, Coventry, CV4 7AL.
