Dr. Marilyn Casley is a Lecturer in Griffith University's School of Human Services and Social Work and member of the Griffith Criminology Institute since 2021. Based at Logan Campus, she holds a PhD from Griffith (2017) and extensive experience in child-focused research and practice.
Her educational background includes:
- Bachelor of Education, University of Alberta, Canada (1974-1979)
- Bachelor of Teaching Early Childhood Education, RMIT University, Australia (2010)
- PhD, Griffith University, Australia (2012-2017)
Dr. Casley's research centers on professional communication with children (0-18 years), focusing on how adults understand children's perspectives. She developed internationally adopted tools for inclusive practice and critical thinking models used in community services. Current work includes a Logan community needs analysis on youth substance misuse, engaging children, parents, and agencies to develop outreach supports. Her research aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-Being).
Dr. Casley actively secures research funding, with recent projects including a Department of Education Voice of Children Framework consultancy (2024-2025) and Griffith-funded child development training conversion (2023-2024). She collaborates internationally in Papua New Guinea with ChildFund and UNICEF.
As an academic leader, she serves as Program Director for six undergraduate programs and supervises three graduate students while having completed three doctoral supervisions. Her work bridges research, policy, and frontline practice through tangible resource development and community partnerships.
