Dr. Marielle Papin is an Assistant Professor at MacEwan University's Department of Anthropology, Economics and Political Science. She holds a PhD from Laval University and serves as Canada Research Chair (Tier II) in Urban Wellness and Director of the Research Institute for Urban Wellness. Her research focuses on urban climate governance, transnational city networks, and environmental policies, particularly how cities collaborate globally to enhance resident well-being and address climate challenges.
Key research interests include the role of transnational municipal networks in shaping climate policies, urban greening initiatives, and interdisciplinary approaches combining qualitative methods with network theory. She is affiliated with the Earth System Governance project and the International Studies Association's Environmental Studies Section.
Dr. Papin's recent work explores billionaire philanthropy's influence on climate governance and urban resilience strategies in compound crises. Her publications span journals like Environmental Politics and Ambio, emphasizing global environmental politics and urban sustainability.
Awards include postdoctoral and doctoral fellowships from the Quebec Research Fund. She actively contributes to professional associations, co-convening the Earth System Governance Urban Working Group and serving on the Sprout Award Committee.
