معرفی
Marie Mardal is an Associate Professor in Forensic Toxicology at the Department of Forensic Medicine, University of Copenhagen, and a Researcher at the Arctic University of Norway. She holds a dual position with 50% appointment at each institution.
Research Interests:
- Computational mass spectrometry
- Forensic HRMS drug screening
- Metabolomics focused on coronary artery disease
- Drug metabolism, detectability, and disposition in various matrices
- Wastewater-based epidemiology for community-level drug consumption trends
- Improvement of screening methods using high resolution mass spectrometry
Dr. Mardal's research focuses on using general-purpose programming languages to improve forensic services, with particular emphasis on detecting new psychoactive substances. She is the Principal Investigator of the TROMBOLOME project (€1.4 million funded by the Norwegian Research Council), which aims to improve data workflows for large-scale untargeted metabolome data by building an SQL database of metabolome data from biobank samples and combining biochemical insights with health registry data for cardiovascular health.
Recent Publication Trends:
Dr. Mardal's recent publications (2022-2025) demonstrate a strong focus on advancing HRMS technology in forensic toxicology, with particular emphasis on data management solutions. Her work shows a clear progression from developing comprehensive screening workflows to implementing scalable data analysis methods using SQL databases for metabolomics and forensic analysis. The research spans forensic toxicology, computational chemistry, and cardiovascular health applications.
Professional Activities:
- Principal Investigator of the TROMBOLOME project (€1.4 million funded by the Norwegian Research Council)
- Creator of HighResNPS.com, an online crowd-sourced HR-MS database
- Management committee member in the EU-funded COST action SCORE-COST (ESSEM 1307, 2016-2018)
Research Impact:
- Her work on wastewater monitoring for drug abuse in Copenhagen has gained significant attention on social media and academic platforms
- Several publications have been widely shared on X (Twitter) and referenced on Mendeley
- Active participation in major forensic toxicology conferences including TIAFT meetings
