Marie-Lys Arnette is an Assistant Professor and holds the Alexander Badawy Chair in Egyptian Art and Archaeology at Johns Hopkins University (JHU). She currently serves as Interim Director of Undergraduate Studies. Her research focuses on Egyptology, social anthropology, and the history of art, with affiliations to archaeological missions such as the Precinct of Mut (JHU/Liverpool University) and Deir el-Medina (Ifao). She collaborates with the European Research Council’s Locus Ludi project and serves on editorial boards for academic collections in Darmstadt and Liège.
She studied at the École du Louvre (History of Art and Museology) and La Sorbonne University (Egyptology). Previously, she held roles as Director of Publications and Scientific Member at the Institut français d’archéologie orientale (Cairo). She has taught at institutions including the École du Louvre, University Lumière-Lyon 2, and the University of Fribourg.
Her academic contributions span archaeological fieldwork, museum studies, and interdisciplinary research in ancient Egyptian culture. She actively engages in conservation projects and international scholarly networks.
