Marie Angèle Theárd

Dr. Marie Angèle Theárd is a faculty member at the University of Washington School of Medicine, Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine, where she assumed the role of Vice Chair for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in 2025. Since joining in 2022, she has focused on inclusive excellence in medical education, clinical practice, and research.

• Leadership: Founded the LEAD UP program (Leadership Enrichment, Advancement, and Development for Underrepresented Populations) to support trainee development.
• Professional Roles: Vice President of Education and Scientific Affairs for the Society of Neuroscience in Anesthesiology and Critical Care (SNACC).
• Clinical Expertise: Specializes in neuroanesthesiology, including anesthesia management for awake craniotomies.

Her research and leadership interests center on integrating EDI principles into medical training, fostering cultural wealth recognition, and enhancing equity in patient care and research practices. She emphasizes relationship-driven leadership and systemic change to dismantle disparities in medicine.
