Mariche Bayonas is a Professor of Spanish Linguistics and Head of the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). Her research focuses on the acquisition of Spanish pronunciation (phonetics and phonology), sociolinguistics, and online language teaching methodologies.

- B.A. in English Linguistics and Literature from the University of Seville, Spain (1997)
Bayonas's work explores the intersection of phonetic/phonological acquisition, sociolinguistic variation, and digital pedagogical tools. She investigates how virtual environments influence language learning, particularly in the domains of politeness strategies and grammatical structures like the subjunctive.
Her publications highlight trends in online language education, including comparative analyses of digital and traditional instruction, challenges in remote teaching, and applications of textual enhancement for grammatical learning. These studies often address phonetic perception, cultural engagement, and pragmatic competence in Spanish learners.
