Maribel Martinez is a Lecturer in the Department of Anthropology at San José State University (SJSU), part of the College of Social Sciences. She holds an M.A. in Applied Anthropology from SJSU (2012) and additional certifications from institutions like Georgetown University’s McCourt School of Public Policy, Stanford University, the Panetta Institute, and Harvard Kennedy School. Her expertise spans leadership, organizational change, equity, social justice, Chicana/Latina community development, and gender/sexuality studies.
With 20+ years in nonprofit work, Martinez previously served as founding director of the Associated Students Cesar Chavez Community Action Center at SJSU, integrating social justice into student experiences. She has collaborated with organizations such as People Acting in Community Together (PACT), Catholic Charities, and the City of San José, focusing on education reform, community safety, healthcare outreach, and public policy.
Her professional development includes certifications in public policy and local governance. Martinez is affiliated with the Department of Anthropology’s Integrative Anthropology Laboratory and contributes to the university’s commitment to community engagement and equity initiatives.
