Marianne Strand Torvanger is a Doctoral Research Fellow at the Centre for Ecological and Evolutionary Synthesis (CEES), University of Oslo, within the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. As part of the BEE-DIVERSE project (led by Bastiaan Star and Markus Sydenham), she combines landscape ecology and functional trait analyses with genomic data to address wild bee conservation challenges, particularly focusing on mitigating the 'Insect Apocalypse' through interdisciplinary approaches.
- Academic Interests: Entomology, Ecology, Zoology, Biodiversity Conservation, Pollinator Ecology, Climate Change Biology
Her research explores habitat criteria and functional traits predicting wild bee occurrence across different landscapes, develops distribution models for ecological groups of bees, and investigates dispersal barriers. Key publications demonstrate expertise in pollinator habitat modeling, climate-landscape interactions, and conservation strategies in agricultural and temperate ecosystems.
Teaching experience includes assisting courses in Terrestrial Zoology, Animal Behavior, Evolutionary Biology, and Science Communication. Outreach activities include researching flower preferences for endangered bee species and participating in public science initiatives through YouTube and forskning.no. Current work integrates ecological and genomic analyses with PhD student Emma F. Eriksen.
