Marianne Bertrand is the Chris P. Dialynas Distinguished Service Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research, Center for Economic Policy Research, and Institute for the Study of Labor.
Her educational background includes a Bachelor's Degree (1991) and Master's Degree in econometrics (1992) from Universite Libre de Bruxelles, followed by a Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University (1998). Prior to joining Chicago Booth in 2000, she served as a faculty member at Princeton University.
Professor Bertrand's research spans labor economics, corporate finance, and development economics as an applied micro-economist. Her work has been published in leading journals including the Quarterly Journal of Economics, Journal of Political Economy, American Economic Review, and Journal of Finance, demonstrating consistent contributions to empirical economic analysis.
Her leadership roles include Co-Director of Chicago Booth’s Social Enterprise Initiative, Director of the University of Chicago Poverty Lab, membership on the Faculty Advisory Board for the Collegium for Culture and Society, and service on the Board of Directors for the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab.

Professor Bertrand currently serves as co-editor of the American Economic Review and maintains active research initiatives through her directorship of the Poverty Lab.
