معرفی
Marianne Anderson is a researcher and jeweller at The Glasgow School of Art, exploring traditional ornamental forms through contemporary interpretations of decorative arts. Her practice centers on the human fascination with adornment using oxidised silver, 18ct gold, red garnets, and white pearls to create luxurious wearable collections.
Anderson graduated from The Glasgow School of Art in 2003 and maintains her studio in Glasgow. Her educational foundation at GSA directly informs her studio practice, bridging historical ornamentation with modern design sensibilities.
Her research investigates how historic designs, motifs, and patterns of symbolic significance reemerge in contemporary contexts, challenging ornament's perception as superfluous. By employing both traditional metalwork techniques and CAD technologies, she translates architectural-scale historic elements into intricate wearable art, achieving unprecedented detail while examining ornament's enduring cultural vocabulary. This work positions her at the intersection of craft heritage and digital innovation.
Anderson actively supervises postgraduate research students at The Glasgow School of Art, mentoring emerging artists in jewellery and metalwork disciplines while exhibiting her work internationally at venues including Goldsmiths’ Fair in London and LOOT in New York.
