Mariana Bacelar is a PhD fellow at CIIE (Research Center for Educational Research and Intervention) within the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences at the University of Porto, concurrently serving as a Visual Arts teacher in Portuguese secondary schools. Her work bridges artistic practice, education, and civic participation across institutional and community settings.
Education:
- Master's Degree in Teaching Visual Arts in the 3rd Cycle of Basic Education and Secondary Education (2021, Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, University of Porto)
- Degree in Plastic Arts - Sculpture (2003, Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Porto)
Her research explores the intersection of art, education, and democratic participation through community-based projects. She investigates how participatory art methodologies foster civic engagement in urban environments, addressing socioeconomic issues like unemployment and spatial politics. Her practice integrates visual arts, performance, and educational frameworks to create collaborative interventions in public spaces and institutional contexts.
Mariana actively contributes to CIIE's research at the University of Porto while maintaining extensive field experience through international artistic residencies and local community projects across Portugal, Spain, Brazil, China, and Macau.
