Dr Marian Krawczyk is a Lecturer in Health and Social Policy (End of Life) at the University of Glasgow's School of Health & Wellbeing. She holds an adjunct role in Social & Environmental Sustainability. She earned a PhD in Sociology and Anthropology (Simon Fraser University, 2015) alongside a Master's in Communication and Bachelor's in Anthropology. Her research focuses on palliative care systems, end-of-life doulas, and the 'total pain' framework. She has held postdoctoral roles at Trinity Western University and the Canadian Frailty Network, and consults on large health initiatives.
Her work spans ethnographic studies of healthcare practices, prognostic uncertainty, and patient-reported outcomes. Recent projects include exploring death doulas' transnational role and extending 'total pain' theory to cancer survivorship. She leads the Glasgow End of Life Studies Group and contributes to public health dialogues via blogs and podcasts.
Key grants include the 2018 Carnegie Foundation Research Grant for microbiome-related palliative care studies. She currently supervises PhD research on 'total pain' operationalization in global healthcare policies and children's end-of-life perspectives. Notable collaborations include work with the End of Life Doula International Research Symposium and the Canadian Frailty Network.
